We have updated our logo and changed the complete design of the wheels. More straight forward lines resulting in a bit aggressive and fast design yet distinguished by the black on black color tones. The FFWD decals are made of special UV protected material which ensures the longevity.
The layup of carbon determines the characteristics of the product. UD (Uni-Directional) carbon has a higher stiffness to weight ratio, resulting in a stiffer rim with the same weight. The different layers of UD-carbon are applied in different angles to get the requirered strenght.
In some specific areas in the rim we use 3k layer for additonal strenght and fracture toughness. Our high-end UD carbon in combination with our specific moulds results in a stiffer and lighter rim compared to our previous full 3K rims.
As always FFWD wheels are built with DT Swiss straight pull hubs and spokes but now in a 2:1 ratio. This means the drive side of the rear wheel or disc brake side of the front wheel have double the amount of spokes compared to the other side. Result is a better spoke load in the critical zones and an increase of stiffness. On front wheels the stiffness increases with 12% where on rear wheels the increase is 22% when using the 2:1 spoke ratio. This in combination with specific drilled spokeholes and the use of high-end components only. We achieved our best wheels ever!
Al our 2:1 rear hubs are using the patented DT Star-Ratchet system. High-presicion spring-loaded ratchets guarantee performance, durability and reliability for many years. Al our wheels are easy(without special tools) to convert to all branch standaards. Campa, Shimano or SRAM XD freehubs and also to all different kind of frame fittings; quick-release and 12 or 15mm tru axle.
Each FFWD wheel with carbon brake surface will now have a new Carbon Nano Tube mixed with the 3K carbon layers. Carbon Nano Tubes are 10.000 times smaller than a human hair but 100 times stronger than steel and in addition they conduct heat much better. Different that ‘standard’ basalt braking surfaces; 3K nano-tube fibres helps to dissipate the heat instead of resisting and isolating it. Beside that it gives more impact resistance strength. For the best breaking performance and the least amound of wear to your brakingsurface we strongly recommend to only use the original Swiss Stop Black Price brakepads. Replacement brakepads are available in our webshop.
For all clincher models the external as well as internal rim width has been increased. Also the profiel has made tubeless ready, meaning that with a specific tire and a tubeless valve you will be able to ride without a traditional innertube. Which gives more grip, comfort and a decrease of the rolling resitance. Please note that these benefits will be highest when lowering the tires pressure compared to a traditional tire/innertube combination.
Last but not least; the wider rims also contribute to a higher lateral stiffness of the complete wheel-spoke-hub system.

As disc brake bikes are becoming more and more common among amateur riders and are fully approved by the UCI for races we are now offering all models for disc brakes as well. From the alloy wheel set to the full carbon clinchers in all heights you can get your wheels with disc brakes. The move to disc brake moves away the brake forces from the rim to a specific developed brakerotor. No more wear on your expensive carbon rims and great breaking performance under all circumstances. During rainy rides and long high-mountain descents. With no wear on the carbon rims, the lifespan of your expensive set of wheels will increase rapidly.
The rims are specific produced for use in disc brake wheelset. So they do not feature a traditional breaking surface. By that we could optimally position our UV-decals on the rim.
For our lastest disc brake wheelsets we developed a dedicated 2:1 disc-brake hub. With means also the lower-tension side of the wheels, front and rear, are laced with a crossed lacing patern. This results in higher torsional stifness of the wheel and by that beter handeling of the high breaking forces of a disc brake bicycle. This will give you as a rider a better overall control of the bike during (hard) braking.
You can easily fit your brake-rotors to our wheels with the widely used centerlock fit. Easy fitting with one ‘centerlock’ instead of the use of 6 seperate bolts. When you use 6-bolts rotors, they do are usable on our centerlock hub with a special adapter. These are availabe through our webshop.
The wider rims with tubeless compatibility in combination with the disc brakes make these wheels your perfect choice for gravel use. Go up to 40mm to choose your ideal tire profile to attack those gravel roads!
